„CO2 Transport and Storage” - a real success in Medias
Medias, 9th June 2011: National Gas Company ROMGAZ", together with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Environment (METBE) and the GETICA CCS Project Company organised the „CO2 Transport and Storage” event held at the National Knowhow Gas Centre in Mediaş.
The main topics of the conference such as the EU Roadmap 2050, European CCS Demonstration Project Network, CCS Demo Projects in Europe, the GETICA CCS Demo Project – steps forward, were approached by METBE, Global CCS Institute, ISPE, Alstom Carbon Capture, ROMGAZ, TRANSGAZ, TURCENI Energy Complex and GeoEcoMar representatives.
In the Official opening, Tudor Şerban, Personal Minister Counsellor made a short review of the GETICA CCS Demo Project actual stage regarding:
- Feasibility Study completition and submition to Global CCS Institute
- Submission of GETICA CCS Project proposal to EIB
- 8 international and national events organized in Romania, starting from September 2010 meant to promoting the CCS technology and share knowledge
- GETICA CCS project presentation made by Romanian experts at 10 international other events organized abroad
- Over 60 articles published in the local and central media, on-line and radio, TV
- Promoting the GETICA CCS project during other related environment events such as Ecoemerge and the World Environment Day 2011
The METBE representative also announced further steps in implementing the GETICA CCS Demo Project:
- The project’s financial scheme ending
- Finalising the transposition of the 2009/31/EC Directive related to CO2 geological storage
- The GETICA CCS project company foundation
- GETICA CCS Project website launching
On this background, Tudor Şerban emphasized the METBE active involvement in proceding with the project implementation through:
- Defining and approving the R&D Sectoral Plan for Industry 2011
- Bilateral negociations with the Norwegian partners
- Testing the CCS regulatory toolkit
- Starting the state guarantee procedure
- Discussions for closing the project financing scheme with BERD, BEI, USTDA
During the conference Official Opening, Carmencita Constantin, Energy and Environment Division Director, ISPE emphasized the fact that the Global CCS Institute active involvement represents a guarantee for developing the CCS technology in Romania, statement made also by Maurice Hanegraaf, European Project Specialist, Global CCS Institute “GETICA CCS is one of the most important project in Europe, with good chance to succeed”.
The same idea was stated by Francisc Toth, ROMGAZ Managing Director who said that GETICA CCS is an ambitious and viable project thanks to its sustainability on medium and long term.
The conference was honored by attendees from the CCS international community - Global CCS Institute, Alstom Carbon Capture; local autorithies - Mediaş City Hall; business environment in the power field; R&D environment and media.
