CCS-Carbon Capture and Storage – into focus again
ISPE together with WEC-RNC organized, on the occasion of the 10th edition of FOREN* 2010, the Keynote Adress 1 (KA1) on the subject “Carbon Capture and Storage – the need, opportunity, world-wide experience”. The event took place on Monday, 14 June 2010, Neptun Conference Center, Europe Hall and it gathered about 130 Romanian and international experts.
The Romanian Government approved the “Action plan for implementing a carbon capture and storage (CCS) demonstrative project in Romania”, thus Romania joined the EU-CCS Demo Program and set up this technology as a national priority which has wide political support.
Taking this into consideration, ISPE as co-organizer proposed during the KA1 meeting a wide debate on the following topics:
- CO2 carbon capture and storage – towards a nature technological development
- Lessons learned from world-wide pilot projects
- News about NER-300 financing program
- Increasing Romania’s chances of becoming one of the 12 CCS demo-projects developer
KA 1 reunited many distinguished attendants from the diplomatic and political environment and Romanian experts such as: His Excellency Mr. Robin Barnett, U.K. Ambassador; Mr. Alexandru Pătruţi, Secretary of State and President, National Agency for Mineral Resources; Mrs. Cristiana Ion, Director, Quality Infrastructure and Environment Division, Minister of Economy, Commerce and Business Environment; Mr. Constantin Bălăşoiu, General Manager, ELECTRA; Mr. Constantin Sava, Member of ZEP Governmental Group (Zero Emission EU Platform); Mr. Gabriel Ignat, Project Manager, Project Management Department, ISPE; Mr. Dumitru Manea, Client Director, Alstom Global Power Sales; Mrs. Claudia Tomescu, Head of Climate Change Office, Environmental Engineering Dpt., Energy & Environment Division, ISPE; Mr. George Darie, Dean, Power Engineering Faculty University Politehnica of Bucharest; Mr. Ion Conecini, Executive General Manager, Romanian Power Industry Employers Federation, chairpersons were Mr. Ioan Dan Gheorghiu, President & CEO, ISPE together with Mrs. Carmencita Constantin, Energy & Environment Division Director, ISPE.
KA1 represented a step forward made by ISPE in disseminating locally and regio the opportunities given by the future Romania CCS demonstrative project.
At this moment, ISPE is about to draw-up under MECB direct coordination the Feasibility Study for the „Romanian CCS Demo Project”, financed by the Romanian Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business Environment (MECB) and Global CCS Institute.
