History
- 1906
After several restructuring, the "Companie du Gas de Bucarest" founded in 1880 in Paris, renewed the concession for another 40 years including the electricity as well. The new Romanian stock company will be named "Gas and Electricity General Company" from Bucharest. The society through it’s two studies departments focussed constantly on large projects, for that time, related to the performance of studies for the development of several power sources and the accomplishment of an extending program of the electricity distribution outside Bucharest (1931).
- 1949
On the 1st of April, The Institute of Power Studies and Design (ISPE) was founded and took over some of the former employees of the "Gas and Electricity Company".
- 1963
A division of ISPE became ISPH (Institute of Hydropower Studies and Design).
- 1969
1969ISPE, besides its essential contribution to the accomplishment of the National Power System (from the generation up to the transport and distribution of heat and power) was involved in the development of Cernavoda NPP, through the Nuclear Power Plant Engineering Division. ISPE ‘s division for NPP engineering became a separate company.
- 1977
ISPE division for NPP Engineering become a separate company, the future CITON.
- 1994
ISPE division for the classic part of NPP engineering was also taken over by CITON, belonging to RENEL (Romanian National Electricity Authority).Meanwhile, ISPE diversify its business area covering also other markets as civil & industrial works, environmental protection and other industrial branches. .
- 1996
On the 4th of July, ISPE split from RENEL and became a state owned joint stock company.
- 1998
On the 2nd of April, ISPE has become a successful 100% private company.
- 1999
ISPE celebrated 50 years of activity and one year as private company, event that gathered over 700 former clients, future or potential ones, friends and employees.
- 2000
1998The threshold of two millenniums and centuries the year 2000 was characterized by:
- the dynamism of ISPE services against the target client structure
- ISPE’s business restructuring and improvement of profitability
- safeguarding ISPE’s leading market position in Romania
- 2001
ISPE expect a new millennium technological competition, a sustainable economic development and a real concurrency market. ISPE commit itself willing to become a successful international consulting & engineering company "made in Romania".
- 2004
The Institute for Studies and Power Engineering celebrated, Thursday 20th of May 2004, at Marriott Hotel, 55 years since its foundation and 6 years of activity as private company. The event gathered more than 600 local and foreign invitees - partners, clients, members of the government, foreign embassies representatives, Polytechnic Universities from Bucharest, Brasov and Oradea, mass media.
- 2006
As a result of ISPE’s internal re-engineering process, started in October 2005, the Supervisory Board established the new company’s structure, officially in force beginning with January 2006.

- 2008
As a result of opening the R&D National System Units assessment, set up by the National Authority for Scientific Research, ISPE, after providing the self-assessment report, obtained the accreditation to develop R&D projects.
