400 kV Arad substation

400 kV Arad substation

Short description:

The switching substation Arad represents an important interconnection point of the Power System which will provide reliable power supply for the consumers of Arad, Timişoara, Reşiţa, Iaz area as well as the power transit to Northern Transylvania deficit area, through OHTL 400 kV Arad - Oradea.
This substation is also an interconnection point with Hungary through OHTL 400 kV Arad - Şandorfalva.

The substation diagram is a double bus system and transfer bus to which 10 cells are connected.

From the structural point of view, this substation has been performed with 1row disposed switches.
The structural disposition is of half-high type provided with 3 voltage levels and 20 m cell step.
One of the 2 collecting bus system has been performed with flexible conductors and the other system with the transfer bus have been performed under the rigid alternative, with 200 mm conductors, sustained by support insulators fixed on metallic support frames.

This substation has high performance primary equipment of high electrical and mechanical endurance and equipped with surveillance and detection (diagnosis) systems allowing faults detection and elimination in due time and thus avoiding the planned non availabilities.
By providing such equipment we could implement a modern substation control system that could control the connection, disconnection or transfer of a cell from one system to another based on sequential controls.

Control and relay protection systems have been performed under an integrated control - protection system and with a decentralized, hierarchic and distributed architecture. The main components of the system are performed with digital equipment.
